What is an XPON ONU Stick?

The XPON ONU Stick is a compact GPON/EPON adaptive ONU module packaged in a standard SFP form factor. It is designed to replace traditional standalone ONUs and provide direct PON access for switches, routers, firewalls, industrial devices, and other Ethernet equipment.

Powered by the Galachip GC1601A chipset, the XPON ONU Stick supports up to 20km transmission distance, VLAN configuration, dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA), multicast transparent transmission, data encryption, fault alarms, and online software upgrades.

With SFP MSA compatibility, it can be directly inserted into an SFP port, enabling seamless integration into existing network infrastructures.

Typical Application Scenarios

1. FTTH (Fiber to the Home)

Internet service providers can deploy the XPON ONU Stick in residential gateways, routers, or home networking devices, reducing hardware complexity and installation costs.

2. FTTB (Fiber to the Building)

For apartment buildings, hotels, office buildings, and campuses, the XPON ONU Stick can be inserted into aggregation switches to provide direct PON connectivity without requiring additional ONU equipment.

3. FTTO (Fiber to the Office)

Enterprise users can connect office switches, routers, and security gateways directly to GPON or EPON networks through the XPON ONU Stick, simplifying network architecture.

4. Industrial Network Access

Industrial Ethernet switches equipped with SFP slots can directly access optical networks, making the solution ideal for smart manufacturing, transportation, and utility networks.

5. Migration from P2P to PON Networks

Organizations upgrading from traditional point-to-point fiber networks can use the XPON ONU Stick to transition to GPON/EPON infrastructure without replacing existing equipment.
